Stabilized and dyed curly maple block. Approximate blank size 1-1/2" square by 6" long. Curly Maple hails from our home country Canada and it delivers exactly what the name suggests. The curls in the wood make straight blanks appear curled. The ripples in the wood seem to shine on their light background coming from the distortion of the wood in the opposite direction of the grain. The wave pattern within the wood creates a natural shimmer. Stabilization refers to impregnating soft wood with resin, creating wood that is no longer weak. Some colour variability is to be expected - this is because different woods have different densities that will affect how the wood absorbs resin and dye. The block in the picture has been sanded to show the figuring and is a typical representation only. Your block will be selected at random.
