This facsimile is composed of two sheets from Stanford's Library Map of London and its Suburbs. It shows Greenwich, the Surrey Commercial Docks, the India Docks and surrounding areas in great detail. Stanford's map was first published in 1862 and at that time was hailed as the most accurate and detailed map of London ever produced and saw Stanford made a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society. The steel engraving employed in the making of the map is of the highest standard. This edition dates from 1891 and shows the Surrey Docks at their peak, Millwall Docks and the short-lived railway branch from Blackheath Road to Greenwich (Stockwell Street)). Stanford's Map Eastablishment survives to this day, although they no longer publish maps.
