Fascinating Fordite rectangle ring with wide flat tapered shank, masterfully handcrafted in Fine Sterling Silver. This classy ring showcases a 24 x 14 mm rectangle Fordite, set in a bezel setting with a wide flat tapered shank. Available in sizes 6 to 10. Fordite (sometimes called Detroit agate) was formed one layer at a time as automotive paint accumulated on the metal racks that transported cars through the paint shop. Over decades, the layers hardened with repeated exposure to high heat during the curing process, making it possible to cut jewelry grade cabochons from this unusual piece of history. The alternating layers of vivid color in each piece provide a unique glimpse into the past. The colors can be used to identify and date the origin of the material. On average, our Fordite is around 65 years old, from Dearborn, Michigan. Each piece of fordite is unique and will vary in appearance due to the interesting and unusual circumstances surrounding its formation.
