Electrospinning Starter Kit – Aligned Nanofibers, Easy Drum Rotary Collector, 40–60 kV
Our Starter Kit is suitable for first time users of electrospinning techniques or expert users who need a dedicated station to develop new materials. THE PERFECT SOLUTION FOR YOUR ELECTROSPINNING PROCESS Our Starter Kit guarantees high performances, remaining compact and user-friendly. Everything you need, in one delivery This is a complete electrospinning station, not a component to be integrated: high voltage generator, syringe pump, rotary collection system, needles, syringes and collector arrive together and work together from day one. You do not have to source a generator from one supplier, a pump from another and hope they match. For a laboratory approaching electrospinning, that removes the three things that usually delay a first result: compatibility between parts, electrical safety (the hood interlock cuts high voltage the moment it is opened) and knowing which parameters to start from. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF USING THIS KIT? You have no space limitations in the hood, so you can easily add more accessories to complement the kit. WHAT ADVANTAGES DO YOU GET FROM USING THIS KIT? Easy Drum is a rotary system for electrospinning application which enables you to obtain aligned micro/ nano fibers using drum or disk collectors. We have different models available for every electrospinning use. This machine allows you to detach the collector, with the advantage of simply replacing it and allowing the creation of tubular structures. By simply moving the mandrels, in fact, you can remove the collector without the need of cutting your fibers substrate. Thanks to the detachable mandrels of the rotary system, collectors of different sizes can be mounted in an easy and fast way. Why aligned fibers, and what you can do with them The rotary collector is what separates this kit from a basic setup. As the drum turns fast enough, each fiber is drawn and wound along the rotation direction: the mat becomes anisotropic and the fibers themselves become thinner. That matters in: Regenerative medicine - aligned scaffolds guide cell orientation on nerve, tendon, muscle and vascular tissue, where a random mat does not give the same result. Tubular structures - vascular grafts and conduits spun directly on a cylindrical collector and removed whole, without cutting. Sensors and composites - directional mechanical, electrical and optical properties. Drug delivery - loaded membranes with controlled release, and core-shell fibers with the optional coaxial needle kits. WHAT MATERIALS CAN YOU ELECTROSPIN? It is possible to electrospin any type of synthetic, organic polymer or ceramic material, starting from solutions at room temperature. WHAT QUALITY AND QUANTITY OF NANOFIBERS DO YOU GET? The user can create deposits of micro/nanofibers with aligned structure, processing up to 200 ml of solution per day - enough for continuous experimental work and for producing samples to characterize and share with partners. MODEL CODES — HOW TO CITE THIS SYSTEM The nameplate on your station carries the model code of the configuration you received. The STKIT family identifies the Electrospinning Starter Kit, followed by the voltage of the generator supplied: STKIT-40 for the 40 kV configuration, STKIT-60 for the 60 kV one. The high voltage control unit is separately labelled HVG-CONT-LCD, and the rotary system carries its own code (BI-EASY-DRUM, -HS or -HSI). If you are writing the Materials and Methods section of a paper, the correct attribution is: Electrospinning was performed using an Electrospinning Starter Kit (STKIT-40, Linari Engineering S.r.l., Pisa, Italy) equipped with a rotating drum collector (BI-EASY-DRUM-HS). Please let us know when you publish - we collect studies performed with our systems in our Knowledge Base. TECHNICAL ADVANTAGES OF THE DEVICE Flexibility: the user can, each time, create the best needle-collector configuration thanks to the absence of geometric restrictions of the device. No waste: the loading of the syringes is done without wasting solution due to the absence of flexible tubes that connect them to the needles. Reliability: use of Omron Electronics industrial components which keeps everything controlled, also under heavy use conditions. SAFETY Automatic interruption of production in case of blackout or malfunction; safety limit switch to stop the high voltage in case the hood is opened. Frequently asked questions Is everything included to start producing nanofibers? Yes. The kit includes the Easy Drum rotary system, the 40 kV (or optional 60 kV) high voltage generator with control unit, an aluminium drum collector, a syringe pump, Luer lock needles, multiple needles with 4 tips and glass syringes. The station hood is available as an option. What is the model code of this kit? The Starter Kit family is coded STKIT, followed by the generator voltage: STKIT-40 for 40 kV and STKIT-60 for 60 kV. The high voltage control unit carries its own label, HVG-CONT-LCD, and the rotary system is coded BI-EASY-DRUM, -HS or -HSI. These are the codes to quote in the Materials and Methods section of a publication. How much material can I process per day? Up to 200 ml of solution per day, which is enough for continuous experimental work and for producing samples to characterize or share with partners. What is the difference from the Starter Kit for random nanofibers? This version includes the rotary collection system, which draws and aligns the fibers along the rotation direction. The random version is configured for non-woven, randomly oriented mats. Which rotary model should I choose? The standard reaches 3000 rpm with a grounded collector; the high-speed version reaches 5000 rpm for maximum alignment and thinner fibers; the HSI version also insulates the collector from ground up to 40 kV, for setups using a second generator. Can I produce tubular structures? Yes. The mandrels are detachable, so cylindrical collectors from 1 to 100 mm in diameter can be mounted and removed without cutting the fiber substrate - the way vascular grafts and conduits are made. Can I do coaxial or melt electrospinning with this kit? Yes, as options: sealed or modular coaxial needle kits for core-shell fibers, and the heating needle system up to 250 °C for solvent-free melt electrospinning. Is it safe for a laboratory with no electrospinning experience? Yes. High voltage is automatically interrupted in case of blackout or malfunction, and a safety limit switch stops it if the hood is opened during operation. How do I know if my material can be electrospun? You can ask espin.ai for a starting set of process parameters, or have our laboratory in Pisa run a feasibility test on your material and characterize the fibers by SEM before you buy.
