Prepare the Ground Choose a level area with good drainage and full sun. Clear any grass, weeds, or debris. Add a thin layer of gravel or sand if needed to level and stabilise the sleepers. 2. Lay Out the First Layer of Sleepers Form a square using 4 sleepers (1.2m each) in a box layout: Two form the sides, and the other two butt into them to complete the square. Ensure the corners are tightly aligned. ✅ Use a tape measure to check both diagonals for squareness.✅ Use a spirit level to check sleepers are level. 3. Position the Second Layer Stack another 4 sleepers directly on top, matching the layer below for a clean vertical line. Make sure edges align and corners are tight. 4. Fix Internal Corner Brackets Place a metal bracket in the middle, inside each corner, ensure they are placed tight into the corner. Drill pilot holes through bracket holes into both adjoining sleepers Use 8 screws per bracket (4 into each sleeper). Repeat for all 4 corners. 5. (Optional) Line the Inside Line the inner walls with landscaping fabric to keep soil from pressing into the timber. Staple fabric just below the top edge. 6. Fill Your Bed Fill with a mix of topsoil and compost and you are ready to plant! 🛠️ Notes & Tips: Internal brackets keep the look clean and avoid visible fastenings. Pre-drilling helps prevent timber from splitting.
