"The Chief" is a aluminum sculpture, CNC machined on a 5-axis mill, which captures the rugged beauty of the Siy’ám’ Smánit - Stawamus Chief in Squamish, BC. Size: 5.5 x 1.5 x 1.75" approx (see images for actual size)Material: 6061 T6 Aluminum GIS (Geographic Information System) data of the Stawamus Chief was pulled and then converted to a STL model, then finally converted to a solid model to be used for CAD for CNC machining. There is approx. 2 hours of surfacing required to achieve the finish. Each sculpture is engraved with a serial number. Due to the process there may be slight variance in each sculpture. Small imperfections should be expected. The surface is highly fingerprint prone, and is coated with a light surface of finishing wax paste to preserve the finish. It can be LIGHTLY wiped with a clean cloth to remove any dust. Why was it designed? Ever since moving my CNC shop up to Squamish my love for hiking has expanded to trail running, and through that world I've met quite a few friends.One in particular, Randy @randy.k.77 whom I met on my first social run with Capra Running, got me motivated to start doing some trail races.In early 2022, Randy at the young age of 59 completed his own 100 miler (160km) trail run throughout Squamish in 30:37hr. Unfortunately I wasn't in town to join him on some of the legs, but I wanted to be apart of it somehow.So I created this mini award for him based on the famous Stawamus Chief which towers over our little town and is one of the largest granite monoliths in the world. Squamish Artwalk Later in 2020 I heard of the Squamish Artwalk. ArtWalk seeks to increase access to and awareness of arts and culture in Squamish and the Sea to Sky Corridor by pairing artists with various venues around town and displays their work for people to visit throughout the month. I wanted to be apart of this, so I machined a much larger version of "The Chief". This particular version is machined from 7075 grade aluminum, took well over 15 hours of machine time and is approximately 10lbs and around 14" long. In 2024 this version will be on display at Kululu Cafe. which is just down from the road from us, and some of the best Poke bowls in town.NOTE: This large version is NOT for sale.
