Bush stone curlew The bush stone curlew is oddly charming and quite kooky but some people find them creepy. Walking around like clunky marionettes, they freeze in odd poses, starin g intently, somehow sure that stillness infers invisibility. Maybe they think this extends to their eggs, which they lay on open ground. Known by some as ‘ghost birds’, these nocturnal weirdos scream at night and group together so rarely that when they do, the group is referred to as an ‘apparition’.
