“Steam Barons is the first release using the Real Steam Brand mark and expands Steam in many ways. Most importantly there is a whole new way to play Steam, instead of players only running a single company they now compete for ownership of the various companies with the primary shareholder in each company deciding the actions of that company each turn. As the game progresses the fortunes of the various companies will fluctuate, it is up to you to decide when to invest and when to cash in your shares. The two mew maps are of northern England and the majority of the USA East of the Rocky Mountains, along with parts of Canada. If used with the base and standard rules from Steam then these maps are ideal for five or six players. The Steam Barons stock-market rules changes the game dramatically, with players now buying and selling shares in each of the six companies. This version of the game can be played by two, three, four, five, or six players with equal enjoyment. Steam Barrons contains 144 wooden train pieces, a double-sided full color mounted board, two punched counter sheets (additional track tiles, money, and company display tiles), and a full color English language rule book.
