Appearing on the occasion of Sterling Ruby’s most comprehensive exhibition with Xavier Hufkens to date, featuring four distinct bodies of new work –drawings, sculptures, paintings, and ceramics – this book provides a broad overview of the latest developments in his oeuvre. The title is borrowed from Allen Ginsberg’s poem Drowse Murmurs (1965), which echoes some of exhibition’s themes, most notably the dialectic between war and peace, destruction and beauty. Central are Ruby’s monochrome drawings, which were shown for the first time.
