Randall Kaufmann introduced the orange stimulator in 1982 to simulate salmon flies. It also makes an excellent hopper imitation. Kaufmann finds that the pattern is often overdressed by most tiers. He recommends a hair wing and tail that is sparse yet flared to achieve the appearance of bulk. This will help to stabilize the fly on the waters surface.
