With over 1,800 km’s of pristine coastline and seemingly endless sun-kissed islands, Croatia is an ultimate traveler's destination. Situated across the Adriatic Sea from Italy, it enjoys an ideal Mediterranean climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Generally it can be split into two wine making regions: Continental (Kontinetalna) and Coastal (Primorska). The southern Dalmatian islands are home to some of the country's most diverse wine styles. The island of Brač is famous for the Zlatni Rat (Golden Cape), one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. It is also home to the Stina winery. In 2009 Jako Andabak leased and renovated a waterfront cellar in the resort town of Bol. 50 hectares of new vineyards were planted to mostly local varietals. The name of the winery was taken from the local white stina stone, a favourite of sculptors and artists. Spread across the island, areas of stina were broken down by machine to allow vine cultivation. Some of these sites located at 420 to 550 metres above sea level were prior never planted to the vine. On the south side of the island he purchased the 500 year old Stipančić convent and its 32 hectares of vineyards.The Stina cuvee white is made from a blend of Pošip & Vuguva with a touch of Chardonnay. In the glass it is yellow-gold in color with a viscous body. Very aromatic, it tastes primarily of apricots, citrus, and almonds. . Nicely crisp, it is both refreshing and a mouthful. Not surprisingly, this wine is ideally paired with most types of seafood. Serving this next to a classic octopus salad, salata od hobotnice, will put a smile on anybody's face.
