Straight 8 is a classic American heirloom cucumber introduced by Ferry-Morse in 1935 and named an All-America Selections winner that same year. Also known as Straight Eight, the va riety was named for its smooth, remarkably straight cucumbers, which reach about 8 inches long at maturity. Healthy, vigorous vines are early and highly productive, producing dependable harvests throughout the season. The uniform cucumbers have smooth green skin, a crisp texture, and an attractive cylindrical shape. Plants show tolerance to cucumber mosaic virus and begin producing approximately 52 days after sowing. Straight 8 is an excellent slicing cucumber with a mild, refreshing flavor and tender flesh. The evenly shaped cucumbers are especially well suited to fresh eating, salads, sandwiches, and other dishes where a crisp garden cucumber shines. Harvests begin approximately 52 days after sowing.
