Peter Josyph via ZOOM Alfred Hitchcock’s adaptation of Strangers On A Train was filmed in 1950, the same year as publication of the Patricia Highsmith novel on which it is based. Adapted by a team that included Raymond Chandler, the film is generally regarded as one of Hitchcock’s best. Farley Granger stars as tennis player Guy Haines, who meets Bruno Anthony, played by Robert Walker, a wealthy young man who proposes that the two of them do a flip-flop, with each performing the perfect crime for the other. In the first session we will discuss the novel and how adapting it for the screen resulted in major alterations to the story. The second session will be a lively discussion of the film, which is available on DVD and for streaming through Amazon Prime on your own during the week between the two classes.
