The Strike Hard Nail Keyclip, designed by artist Charlie Mari, has a rich historical significance. On June 25, 1867, 3000 Chinese workers working on the country’s first transcontin ental railroad staged the largest labor stoppage to that date; protesting unfair wages, dangerous working conditions, and long working hours compared to their white counterparts. “Strike Hard”, made by artist Charlie Mai, commemorates this early Chinese labor history in America and juxtaposes it to the simultaneous import and fascination with Chinese goods.
