Premium latigo leather construction stands up to daily training sessions while the narrower 1/2" width reduces hand fatigue and bulk. At 8 feet long, you get the extra slack needed for green horses to find their balance without sacrificing control. From our barn to yours, these are reins you'll reach for every time you saddle up. Why Riders Choose STS Knot Split Reins Instant release communication — Weighted pineapple knots provide superior drape and immediate drop when you give slack, critical for teaching a horse to respond to lighter cues. Less hand fatigue, better grip — The 1/2" width is purpose-built for smaller hands or riders who prefer less bulk, keeping you comfortable through long training sessions. Quick one-handed adjustments — Narrower profile lets you slip or shorten reins fast during reining, cutting, or cow work when both hands aren't free. Training-length flexibility — 8-foot length gives green horses room to move while staying practical for everyday riding and ranch work. Split design safety — Prevents dangerous snags in brush and doubles as a lead rope when you need to dismount and ground-tie. Ranch-proven durability — Latigo leather construction holds up to sweat, weather, and daily use without stretching or losing shape. Best For Performance trainers and working riders looking for lightweight, weighted reins that deliver superior feel and instant release communication. Frequently Asked Questions Q: Why choose 1/2" reins over the standard 5/8" width? The 1/2" width reduces bulk in your hands, making it easier to maintain a secure grip without fatigue during long rides or intensive training sessions. Many riders with smaller hands or those working multiple horses a day prefer this narrower profile for better agility and less strain. It also allows faster one-handed rein adjustments when you're moving cattle or working tight patterns. Q: What does the pineapple knot actually do for my riding? The weighted knot at the bit end creates natural drape — your reins hang straight instead of looping or curling. More importantly, when you release pressure, the weight provides an immediate drop signal your horse can feel instantly. This makes a huge difference when teaching a horse to respond to lighter cues and helps prevent over-cueing. Q: Are 8-foot reins long enough for a larger horse? Yes, 8 feet provides plenty of length for most horses, including larger breeds. The extra length is especially useful during training when you want to give a young horse freedom to find their headset without constant contact. For finished performance horses, you'll still have enough rein to work comfortably without excess dragging.
