CLASS DETAILS 6 WEEK2 HOUR CLASSES (Same day/time each week unless otherwise noted) LOCATION: 114 Mulcahy Rd, Pakenham 3810 You will really get your hands dirty with this class and learn the basics ofpottery, from wedging clay to wheel throwing, hand building and glazing.This course is suited to the complete beginner with the aim to achieve theconfidence to continue onto an advanced class or to continue on yourpottery journey at home. You will have time to develop you own skills withwell-informed experienced teachers ready to help. Gain ideas, friendshipsand knowledge through group learning. 6 Week Class Schedule: Week 1: Introduction from teacher, overview of what will happen in each class. Teacher will provide a short lesson and introduction to pottery, lightly touching on the stages of clay provided in the handout. Students will make 1-2 cylinder shaped pots on the wheel – depending on class time. Week 2: Students will fettle their pots from the week before, with the option to add handles if the pots are wet enough. Students will then make a bowl shaped pot on the wheel. Students will have 1kg of clay each to use, making 2-3 vessels depending on time. Week 3: Students will have time to fettle their pots from the week prior. Designated time to learn how to make plates on the wheel – with 1kg of clay each to use. Week 4: Students can fettle their pots from the week before. Teacher will demonstrate how to make bottle shapes, learning how to collar in the tops of the pots to create a narrow opening. 1kg of clay is provided to each student. Week 5: Fettling time – students can fettle their pots from the week beforehand. Free / catch up time in which students who have missed classes can catch up, or have free time on the wheel to make what they like. Students can also spend time hand-building, using slabs of clay or practicing wheel work. Week 6: All pots have been bisque fired, ready for glazing. Students will have the opportunity to under glaze or dip their pots into coloured glazes – or handbrush with glaze. Any pots not glazed this week will be clear glazed by factory staff. Pots will then be available to pick up 2 weeks later, students will receive a text message for pick up – or pots can be posted out for a delivery fee. Note: Any classes that have been cancelled due to teacher absence will be rescheduled, usually adding on an extra week after week 6. Any students who miss a class will have an opportunity to catch up on week 5. BOOKING ESSENTIAL Max 8 People Per Class. A minimum of 4 students is required for the 6 week workshop to commence. Students who have already booked will be notified via email if the course is cancelled. Please note, due to staffing requirements we require 72 hours notice for any changes or cancellations in order to be eligible for a refund. We will treat them with the utmost care. However, accidents and breakages can happen along the way. Unfortunately, this is the nature of pottery. In addition to handling, other factory may cause damage. For example, cracks can occur due to thin or overworked clay, or breakages due to very thick clay. We will try our best to make sure your piece does survive its journey, however please note that there are risks involved.
