Our preferred split ring. Extremely strong, low profile, not bulky and doesn’t deform when installing. Order the same size rings as you normally would. We use the T-SR5 for the Standard Duty rigging on the Pínchovy and the T-SR6 for the Big Game version. The impressive strength rating is due to the oval shape of the rings and superior material selection. When pulled, the major axis or long direction of the oval track ring aligns with the loading direction, ensuring that there are always two coils of wire at each point of contact, reducing the stress concentration effect by distributing the load over more material. The rings are constructed from the NAS301H “Herculee” alloy manufactured by Nippon Seisen Co., Ltd. that compared to standard 301- and 304-grade stainless steels features significantly increased tensile and fatigue strength, as well as improved permanent set resistance. This results in a split ring that is less prone to being permanently deformed after installation by split ring pliers, and compared to other extra-strength split rings that may suffer from being “gaped open” after this process in our experience these rings do not do so, and also benefit from using a smaller diameter wire gauge, comparable to standard strength rings, that greatly reduces bulk, improves their ability to move freely, and enables them to fit into smaller eyelets. Dimensions (ID/OD) in the long direction are the same as equivalent sized circular rings, dimensions in the short direction are equivalent to those of circular rings one size smaller. *Worth noting these are the standard version; there is also an M-Spec version of these rings made from SUS631 stainless steel that has a slightly reduced load rating and smaller wire diameter across all sizes that is designed to facilitate even easier installation without damage when attaching to thicker eyelets. In our experience both work interchangeably.
