This 1967 colour study showcases Anni Albers' wall hanging designs for Mexico City’s Camino Real Hotel. Her exploration of triangular motifs reflects an engagement with the tension
between order and chaos in nature’s crystalline structures, as well as an interest in Mexican culture. Inspired by her many visits to Mexico and her fascination with Mesoamerican forms, she also collected pre-Columbian artefacts and textiles. Created in close collaboration with the Josef & Anni Albers Foundation to honour the legacy of one of the most influential figures in 20th-century Modernism. Great effort has been taken to maintain the correct colours, design and appearance of the original artwork throughout the reproduction process. Anni Albers (1899-1994) was one of the most influential textile artists and designers of the 20th century. She started her career at the Bauhaus, where she redefined weaving – combining an ancient craft with the language of modern art. In 1949, she became the first woman and the first textile artist to have a solo exhibition at MoMA. She later explored innovative printmaking, solidifying her legacy as a trailblazer in both mediums.
