The principle of Sitz baths is based on hydrotherapy, whereby the warmth of the water promotes circulation in the pelvic area, thereby speeding up the healing process. A woman is recommended to sit in the basin for up to fifteen minutes or when the water becomes cool. Sitz baths are recommended immediately following delivery to soothe perineal tears, soreness, sometimes experienced as burning sensations. Question: What are Sitz baths used for?
