A maple tree you can tap! The Sugar Maple, or Acer saccharum, is the classic tappable maple. Native to the Eastern United States, the sugar maple was a staple for early Americans. It, of course, can be tapped for maple syrup and refined into numerous other products. Growing to heights of 40-80' and hardy to zone 3, this maple can grow well in many soils and is pollution tolerant. Experts suggest the trees be 8" in caliper before they can be tapped.
