Sumard figs are medium sized and hail from the western coast of France that touches the Atlantic Ocean and also the river Charente. As figs that were bred in the presence of water, Sumard has good resistance to splitting in rains and humidity. Like a typical French fig, Sumard has an elongated shape. The skin is typically purple, and can even turn black with prolonged sun exposure. Figs exposed to less sun may keep some of the yellow skin that first appears on these figs. The skin may also have some crackling. Inside, the figs have bright red pulp with a jammy texture. Sumard is known for a distinct and delicious strawberry flavor. They ripen in early September (depending on growing conditions) and grow on trees with 5- and 7-lobed leaves. Sumard figs are also known for their ability to dry on the tree for a more concentrated flavor. Terms and Conditions: ***Please be sure to read our Terms and Conditions before purchasing cuttings*** When do we ship cuttings? Non-Rooted Cuttings(November/December): We begin to ship cuttings once the trees are dormant and in a shippable state. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March. **All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October/November) will ship out first in November/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refrigerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine. That is what we do and they've turned into our most impressive trees. Rooted Cuttings(Spring): We begin shipping rooted cuttings once they are mature enough to ship. The shipping period typically begins late April and continues into June. Regardless of the date you select during checkout, we will ship when ready during that span. Please do not ask for ETA's or specific arrival dates. You will receive an email when your order ships with UPS Ground tracking details. For all questions, please refer to our Fig FAQ page here.
