Our 100% Sumatra single-origin is one of our darkest roasts. We meticulously roast this one as dark as possible while avoiding any burnt or overbearing smoky flavors which can overpower the flavor of the coffee itself. Our Sumatra delivers a bold, earthy cup with a smooth, lingering finish and balances intensity with drinkability - never burnt, never bitter. What does Sumatra coffee taste like? Sumatra coffee is special due to its distinct flavor profile, which is full-bodied, earthy, and low in acidity. This unique taste is attributed to the region's nutrient-rich volcanic soil, high-altitude cultivation, and the traditional wet-hulling processing method. These factors, combined with Sumatra's ideal tropical climate, result in coffee beans that are complex and robust, making Sumatran coffee highly prized by coffee enthusiasts around the world. Heavy body. Sumatra coffee has a rich, full-bodied texture that feels substantial in the mouth, often described as syrupy or creamy. Bold tones. The flavor is robust and intense, with a complexity that sets it apart from lighter roasts. You might notice notes of dark chocolate, cedar, or tobacco. Earthy aromas. Sumatra coffee typically has an earthy, sometimes herbal aroma. These earthy characteristics can give the coffee a slightly rustic, grounding quality. Low acidity. Compared to other coffee origins, Sumatra beans usually have lower acidity, resulting in a smoother, less tangy taste. Complex flavor profile. Depending on the specific beans and roasting process, you might also detect hints of spices, licorice, or even a slight sweetness.
