Planting & Care Find a spot in your yard that gets full sun and has well-draining soil. Plant your Summercrisp Pear tree in a hole twice as wide and nearly as deep as the root's ball. Loosen the root ball and place in hole. Amend soil with compost or peat moss. Make sure the area where to root meets the stem is 2-4 inches above the soil line.
