The slanting light of early morning and late afternoon is always the most dramatic. This little vignette is painted from a scene that I came upon while hiking up Mount Chocorua ear ly one day after staying overnight at Jim Liberty Shelter. After a night of rain and clouds, the sky way perfectly blue, the air still and chilly. Picturesque groups of trees clung to the mountain all the way up the west side of the rocky cone.
