This poster is a popular memento of a visit to Music City, pairing the vibrant colors of a Nashville sunset with quintessential typefaces framing the city's skyline. While it looks like we spent all day printing a rainbow's worth of color to create the print, it was actually done in just three passes through the press. The layered design started with a split fountain of hand-mixed ink, a technique in which the inking rollers have multiple colors inks applied to them, resulting in a printed rainbow, or in this case, a vivid sunset. Next up was the hand-carved linoleum print block skyline and antique dingbats, or decorative elements, on either side of Tennessee. The final pass was completed with very old wood and metal type identifying the location, printed in a deep transparent blue reminiscent of the sky on a clear summer night.
