Developed in 1956 at the major apple development centre, the East Malling Research Station in Kent, Suntan won the R H S Award of Merit in 1980 and the Award of Garden Merit in 199 3.Suntan is a medium and attractive apple, flushed with orange-red, golden yellow, dark red stripes and russet patches. It's ready around October time but stores into February. The flesh is rich and sweet, very aromatic and with some acidity. It's nice fresh from the tree, but even better, stored and eaten in December or even later.Suntan is a triploid tree, which always means it has great vigour and resilience. It crops well too.
