Suprasorb X and Suprasorb X+PHMB are sterile HydroBalance wound dressings designed to regulate moisture within the wound bed. Their biosynthetic cellulose structure can absorb excess wound exudate while also donating moisture to drier areas, helping to maintain a moist environment that supports wound healing. Suprasorb X is intended primarily for non-infected, lightly to moderately exuding wounds, while Suprasorb X+PHMB contains 0.3% polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB/polihexanide) and provides additional antimicrobial activity for wounds that are infected or at risk of infection. Key features: HydroBalance technology helps regulate moisture in the wound Absorbs excess exudate from wetter areas Donates moisture to areas with low levels of exudate Helps maintain a moist wound-healing environment Soft, highly conformable dressing Suitable for superficial and deep wounds Suitable for light to moderately exuding wounds Can be used during the exudation, granulation and epithelialisation phases of wound healing Available as dressings and a 2cm × 21cm rope for deeper wounds and cavities Sterile and individually sealed Requires an appropriate secondary dressing Suprasorb X: for non-infected wounds Suprasorb X+PHMB: contains 0.3% PHMB for antimicrobial wound management Suprasorb X+PHMB has activity against a broad spectrum of microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi and yeasts Suitable for: Suprasorb X may be used for non-infected superficial or deep wounds with low to moderate levels of exudate. Suprasorb X+PHMB is intended for superficial or deep wounds that are infected or at risk of infection, including: Pressure ulcers Venous and arterial leg ulcers Diabetic ulcers Partial-thickness / superficial second-degree burns Post-operative surgical wounds Skin graft sites Skin graft donor sites Abrasions Lacerations Suprasorb X+PHMB can be used during different stages of wound healing, including the exudation, granulation and epithelialisation phases. Composition: Suprasorb X: Cellulose Water Suprasorb X+PHMB: Cellulose Water 0.3% polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB / polihexanide) PHMB is released from Suprasorb X+PHMB into the wound, where it provides antimicrobial activity rather than acting only within the dressing itself. How to use: Clean the wound according to the recommended wound-care protocol and carefully dry the surrounding skin. Remove the protective films from the dressing and place Suprasorb X or Suprasorb X+PHMB directly over the wound. Smooth the dressing gently so that it conforms to the wound surface. For deeper wounds, the Suprasorb X or X+PHMB Rope can be folded and placed loosely into the wound cavity. Do not tightly pack the wound. Cover with an appropriate secondary dressing according to the amount of exudate. A film dressing may be suitable for lightly exuding wounds, while a more absorbent secondary dressing may be required where exudate levels are higher. If the dressing becomes dry or adheres during wear, it can be rehydrated with saline or water according to local wound-care protocol to facilitate gentle removal. Dressing change frequency: Dressing-change frequency should be based on the condition of the wound, infection status, amount of exudate and the secondary dressing being used. For Suprasorb X+PHMB, infected wounds should be reviewed regularly. Where clinically appropriate, the dressing may remain in place for up to 7 days, depending on the condition of the wound, level of infection, exudate and secondary dressing. The dressing becomes discoloured as it absorbs exudate and should be changed before exudate reaches the edge of the dressing or causes strike-through.
