Unlike most food art, this doesn't wait for approval. A maki roll, a bowl of miso, pickled ginger and a glass of water sit together on warm cream, with the kanji for 'cheers' across the top in deep blue. Put it up and the kitchen feels a bit more deliberate. The orange bowl and brown chopsticks add warmth, the green and pink keep things cheerful, and the lettering gives the wall something to read. It earns its keep above a small dining table, beside a coffee station, in a breakfast nook, or on a narrow kitchen wall where a window won't fit. Pair with pale oak, linen, ceramic mugs and stoneware bowls. A potted herb or two doesn't hurt. Don't crowd it with other busy food prints — one quiet companion is plenty.
