Incentive Create artwork showing the earth’s resources and how they impact sustainability. -Line-Shape-Space-Colour-Texture Supplies A3 paper Print out of earth's globe Earth small [download] Pencil Black marker (medium point) Paint Paintbrush Scissors Craft glue Lesson 1 Cut out and paste the earth’s globe in the centre of A3 paper. 2 If children are confident, they can draw the pictures in black marker. If not, they can draw in lead pencil first, and trace with the black marker prior to painting. Begin by drawing images that impact sustainability. The first layer of drawings will all be touching the outline of the earth. Make the drawings large and keep them close together. One image should be touching the other. Turn the A3 paper round as the images are being drawn. 3 When a first layer is completed, start on a second layer. Fill in any gaps with smaller images. The images should look larger that the earth’s surface, implying sustainability issues. 4 Choose any watered down colour to paint the background. A fine paintbrush might be best when painting around the images. 5 Alternatives may be to draw straight onto art paper from the beginning for faster results. 6 Display in the classroom, when the art works are dry, with information and facts about sustainability.
