Watercolour, gouache and 24.5ct gold leaf on paper This is part of a series of works exploring the locating of neolithic sites in the British Isles near sink holes, also known as d olines or swallet. It is thought the Swallet was seen as a portal to the underworld, making it a sacred location. Stone age ceremonial items have also been found at these locations. The house I was born into in England was located near the ruins of an abbey and a holy well, and was called Swallet House. I find it curious now that I was born into a house named after a portal to the underworld, and my work today centres around caring for the soul through life transitions.
