Columella is a blend of old-vine fruit from eight Swartland vineyards while Palladius is a blend of 7 varieties from 12 different vineyard sites and is considered to be Eben's flag ship wine. A Syrah based blend with additions from Mourvèdre, Grenache, Carignan, Cinsaut, Tinta Barocca, and Pinotage, the wine was wild fermented before being matured for two years in oak of varying size and shape (10% new). The 2023 vintage displays strawberry, dark cherry, purple flowers like violet, and will develop over time to show umami-like mushroom, tilled earth, and leather. Eben Sadie is considered one of the great visionaries and preservationists among South African winemakers. He is outspoken about his obsession with terroir and making sure the Swartland region is recognized as a place to make exceptional, authentic and highly coveted wines.He founded Sadie Family Wines in 1999, after establishing his career in both South Africa and wineries across the world and released his first vintage of Columella in 2000.
