Even experienced warriors protected by shields and armour remained vulnerable once fighting became prolonged. SX-62A – Two Wounded Saxons represents two men caught in the turmoil of battle. Their wounded poses create a natural break among the upright figures of the shield wall and help suggest a formation beginning to suffer casualties. These figures work particularly well when scattered among the different Saxon Fyrdmen and Housecarls, creating a scene that appears to be unfolding rather than simply posed.
