The differences between them come down to the ratio of two key isomers: arborone and Iso Gamma. Understanding this is essential to choosing the right one. Arborone is the main odour vector. The primary isomer in Iso E Super is almost odourless — it was discovered in 1990 that a minor impurity, arborone, is roughly 100,000 times more potent and accounts for most of what you actually smell. Arborone delivers an intense, woody, slightly animalic character. Iso Gamma contributes the warm, amber, velvety facet that gives these materials their radiance and skin-like glow. The highest arborone of any product on the open market, but the lowest Iso Gamma. This means Sylvamber has the most intense woody-animalic character but the least amber warmth. It smells oilier, more old-wood, more tactile. Orbitone T Neo (Takasago) 2.5% arborone, 14.2% Iso Gamma. Nearly the opposite balance: low arborone but very high Iso Gamma, second only to IFF's captive Iso Gamma Super.
