It was developed by the Soviet Union to better counter newer German tanks like the Tiger II and Panther. The T-34/85 featured a more powerful 85 mm gun mounted in a larger, three-man turret, which improved both firepower and crew efficiency compared to earlier models. Its sloped armor design remained effective, offering good protection while keeping the tank relatively mobile and lighter than heavy German tanks. This balance of firepower, protection, and mobility made it one of the most effective and versatile tanks of the war. Unlike more complex German designs, the T-34/85 was simple, rugged, and easy to produce in large numbers.
