This is the first time we’re introducing table textiles at onthetable.uk, and it felt only right to begin with pieces that are not only beautiful but genuinely useful — things that feel good in the hand, look lovely on the table, and age with quiet grace. These table mats are by Boiida, a Stockholm based brand founded by Korean textile designer Seoyoung Shin, whose work I’ve admired for a long time and am so pleased to finally introduce. They’re made from 100% European linen, woven in Sweden by Klässbols — the same mill trusted by the Nobel Banquet and the Swedish Royal Court. No big deal. (Actually, quite a big deal.) After weaving, the fabric is washed once, giving it a beautifully soft feel and a naturally relaxed, textured surface. Its gentle irregularities are part of its charm and make it a wonderfully versatile piece — use it as a placemat, as a small layer for serving, or simply as a quiet accent on your table. Soft textures, clean colours, and the kind of quality you recognise without needing to say much. They do the job, and they do it beautifully — exactly the sort of thing we like to put on the table.
