The Tailwind ring is one of the more unusual pieces in the collection. I always wanted to have a ring as part of The Windblown Collection but it took a while for this final concept to surface. I was set on featuring the V and chain/tube design which appears throughout The Windblown Collection, and wanted to somehow fold in a sense of movement. Eventually my idea for the Tailwind pieces solidified on a walk around the river with a friend. I was talking (a lot!) she was listening. You know how sometimes, it just takes saying it out loud to someone.. and a walk outside? (Always a walk outside!) It was a breezy day, so I reckon the Tailwind ring was heading in our direction and my mind just reached out and caught it before it swirled past. When I got home I scribbled it in blue ink onto my finger, unconvinced as to whether it would work (see the ‘Windblown Collection in development photo gallery’). It wasn’t until I slid actual, finished ring onto my finger that I knew it worked. It is just one of those pieces you have to see on your hand – it just doesn’t work until its worn, and then something magical happens! What is lovely is that, whilst it requires a bit more care and attention to get on and off than a standard ring, the chain moves a bit through the tube a little bit. It is still very comfortable to wear, although you do need to take care not to catch the chain if you’re grappling with something. I'd suggest that the Tailwind ring is more of a dress-up-and-do-something-nice-ring, rather than a standard-work-day ring. Each and every Tailwind ring is made to order, and I require your specific ring size, so please ensure you state this in the comments when you place your order, or send me an email. There is further information about how to find your ring size in the dropdown section ‘Chain lengths and ring sizes’, below. The detail The bottom band of the ring is 2.3mm thick by 1.5mm high D shaped wire (flat on the inside). Balanced on the band with some gentle soldering is the signature 1mm thick Windblown Collection V motif, which measures 9mm wide side to side, 8mm long top to bottom, with a piece of silver tube (2mm diameter) atop its horizontal axes. The top section of the ring (8mm above the band) features delicate cable chain, the same overall circumference as the ring band, with a tiny soldered 2mm jump ring holding the chain together to complete the loop. The jump ring is a little bigger than the chain links, and the chain - being loose - will fall when not being worn.
