Tango is a style of music and dance that comes from Argentina, a country in the southern-most part of South America. In Argentina, tango is the popular music of the streets. It’s common to see tango dancers meeting up for a milonga (social tango dance) in public parks, restaurants, and even the train station! The dramatic tension of tango music is found in the contrast between its legato and staccato notes. Tango lengthens the time between notes in one moment (legato) and shortens it in the next (staccato).
