This is a composite view from the South with jetty and ferry post; the kirk and white-washed cupola or bell-tower, and the houses. Yates’s work as an architect very much informs his paintings and buildings often feature, but this exceptional print is more a study in building materials – their textures, shapes and colours. There’s the smoothness of slate, the graininess of wood and the lattice segments of the tiles.
