Tarni is an Aboriginal name derived from the language of the Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains in South Australia. The name means “surf” or “wave” and evokes a sense of freedom and connection to nature - qualities we hold dear. The Tarni has been two years in the making. In the summer of 2024, my husband and I visited Uluṟu in the heart of Australia, where a little noodle shop packed their takeout in the most perfect little paper bags. I loved the shape. So, naturally, we decided to make one in leather. The original paper bag somehow got thrown away after I carried it all the way home, so it took a fair amount of trial and error to get the proportions right. But we finally did it! Inspired by a humble paper takeout bag and made in our beautiful vegetable-tanned leather. It’s simple, useful, and quietly beautiful. Just the way we like things. The attached strap allows the bag to be carried 3 ways. One zippered internal pocket. Solid brass feet. Dimensions 11" H x 13" W x 6" D Use the strap doubled as a hand bag - adjustable 6"-8"... ...or use the strap single as a shoulder bag - adjustable 11"-13". All our bags are made with American sourced fully vegetable tanned leather. When exposed to sunlight, oils and water, the leather will grow darker over time and develop a lovely dark patina.
