This unit gives you essential knowledge and recommend a variety of specific activities for developing learners’ language ability. As well as exploring specific activities for developing skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) and systems (lexis, grammar, phonology and discourse), you will learn how to evaluate tasks to ensure you select activities that work for both you and your learners. Downloadable activities, interviews and videos of real teachers in real online classrooms professionally guide you through your learning and development in this area. By identifying key considerations for lesson planning and task alignment, this unit will give you practical and reliable ideas to support your learners’ language needs and that create a fun and engaging online learning environment. Intended learning outcomes You will: Evaluate the appropriacy of tasks and activities for teaching receptive and productive skills Assess tasks that can be used to develop language awareness Identify elements of best practice when using online tasks and activities Define what makes an effective task or activity in an online lesson This is a three-hour, self-study unit designed to be completed at a time convenient to you. You can access the training at any time and you don’t need to do all three hours at once – you can re-enter the training as often as you like for 12 months. Written using a CEFR B2 language level, you will still benefit from the course if your level is below B2, but you may take longer to complete the unit. As well as interactive tasks, this unit includes an optional ‘teacher portfolio task’, to help consolidate your knowledge and demonstrate your learning.
