Taxiphyllum barbieri, universally known as Java moss, is the most widely grown aquarium moss in the world — and for good reason. It produces dense, irregular branching with small dark green oval leaves that cover any surface it attaches to, creating the naturally overgrown softened texture that is fundamental to planted aquascaping. Attached to wood or rock it integrates hardscape naturally into the layout. Allowed to grow freely it produces thick cushions or trailing curtains of green.Java moss is among the easiest plants in the hobby. It grows in low to medium light without CO2 injection and adapts to almost any water conditions — soft or hard water, acidic or neutral pH, and temperatures from 15 to 30°C. It benefits from occasional trimming to keep growth compact and bushy. Shrimp and small fish use it extensively for grazing and shelter, making it one of the most functionally valuable plants in any tank.Supplied as a loose portion for attaching to your choice of wood, rock, or mesh. Secure with fine thread or aquarium-safe glue and allow several weeks to establish before removing the thread. Alternatively, place loosely on the substrate and allow it to spread and anchor naturally over time. Effective in aquariums of 10 litres and above.
