Taxiphyllum barbieri, better known as Java moss, is a hardy moss from South-East Asia with fine, irregularly branched fronds that form a soft green mat. It grows on almost any surface, so it sits wherever you attach it, on stones, driftwood or tree roots, or across the mid ground of the tank.Java moss is one of the easiest aquatic plants to keep. The moss becomes 3 to 10cm thick and grows willingly on hardscape, so it is ideal for decorating stones and roots or softening the look of equipment. Attach it with fishing line or cotton thread until it takes hold, then let it thicken in. If it gets too luxuriant, simply trim it back with scissors.
