It is the pursuit of knowledge, aroha, peace, goodness, arts (whakairo, humanities, music, philosophy, and literature.) Our Te Aronui toi come in 2 colour ways. The Story of the three baskets of Knowledge. Tane-nui-a-Rangi climbed to the highest of the 12 heavens, known as Te Toi-o-nga-rangi to collect the baskets of knowledge and as he gained entry into the highest of the heavens, he was brought before lo-matua-kore, the Supreme god; the parentless-one. The Supreme God, lo, dwelt in the twelfth sky at Matangireia. His marae was Te Rauroha, and the sacred house in which the treasures of knowledge were kept was named Rangiatea. There Tane retrieved the three baskets of knowledge: te kete-tuatea (basket of light), te kete-tuauri (basket of darkness) and te kete-aronui (basket of pursuit). The patterns and designs within this Mahi Toi symbolise the reclamation of one's cultural identity, mental health journey, relationship or significant achievements. Which enables us to rewrite our story and reinvent our self with strength, courage, self-determination and resilience.
