Tea Tree is native to Australia and has been used for thousands of years by the Indigenous Peoples of Australia who reportedly used it to treat fevers and infected wounds. During the Second World War, Tea Tree Oil was used to treat skin infections. Often regarded as a first-aid essential oil as it could help with various infections and also skin conditions. Other varieties of tea tree have been cultivated elsewhere, but M. alternifolia is not produced outside Australia, mainly in New South Wales. Used extensively as an ingredient in a wide array of toiletries and perfumes as well as disinfectants. It is a small tree or shrub, similar to Cypress and with needlelike leaves, with heads of yellow or purplish flowers. Tea Tree essential oil has a warm, fresh, spicy-camphoraceous aroma. It is a top note and blends well with other medicinal, antiseptic and spice oils and Eucalyptus, lemon, lavender, Rosemary, Geranium essential oils.
