Two active coaxial speakers with 200W of amplification, a moving-magnet phono input, HDMI ARC, USB-C and the whole network stack — a complete system with no amplifier, no rack and, if you want, no cable between the speakers. The SC-CX700 is Technics’ first wireless hi-fi speaker system, and it is a genuine attempt at replacing a separates system rather than a lifestyle box with a Technics badge. Each cabinet is powered — 100W apiece, split 60W to the woofer and 40W to the tweeter — and each carries the same coaxial driver principle as Technics’ passive speakers, a 150mm woofer with a 19mm ring tweeter mounted in its centre so both radiate from one point. One of the two cabinets is the Primary, and it carries everything: the network module, the amplification feed and every physical input. Those inputs are the reason this is worth taking seriously. There is a moving-magnet phono input, so a turntable connects directly with nothing in between. There is HDMI ARC, so a television feeds it and the TV remote controls the volume. There is optical, USB-C for a computer, a 3.5mm analogue input and a subwoofer output. There is no coaxial digital input. The two cabinets talk to each other wirelessly by default, at up to 96kHz and 24 bits, and pair themselves automatically when you power them on. A three-metre Speaker Link cable is supplied in the box for anyone who wants the higher ceiling — 192kHz and 24 bits — or a more stable connection. Either way you only need mains at each cabinet. Space Tune is Technics’ room correction and it comes in three grades: four presets that describe where the speaker is (Free, Wall, Corner, In a Shelf) settable independently per side; Space Tune Auto, which measures automatically with the built-in microphone; and Space Tune Measured, which is the more thorough manual measurement. That per-side preset matters more than it sounds — almost nobody has both speakers in the same acoustic situation. Streaming is comprehensive: dual-band Wi-Fi to 802.11ax, Bluetooth with AAC and SBC, AirPlay, Chromecast built-in, Spotify Connect, TIDAL, Deezer, Qobuz, Amazon Music HD, internet radio and Roon Ready. Control is through the Technics Audio Center app. One published gap worth flagging: Technics quotes the amplifier power without stating a load impedance or a distortion figure. That makes 100W per cabinet a number we cannot put in context for you, and we would rather say so than dress it up. The SC-CX700 does not appear in Technics’ published US warranty table. Their SB-C600 and SB-G90M2 speaker systems are listed at three years parts and labour, as is the SC-C70MK2 all-in-one. Ask us and we will confirm with Panasonic rather than assume. Technics states that product registration is not required and does not extend coverage. A dated sales receipt is required, coverage runs to the original purchaser, and the product must be purchased and serviced in the United States.
