What the Checking Process Includes A full TEFILLIN inspection is a detailed and meticulous procedure. It involves carefully opening the BATIM, examining every letter of each PARSHIYAH, repairing letters when halachically possible, reinserting the scrolls correctly, and skillfully resewing and closing the BATIM. This process requires concentration, deep expertise, and a commitment to halachic accuracy.The minimum time needed to properly check a pair of TEFILLIN is two hours, although it may take longer depending on the condition of the scrolls. The fee for a full TEFILLIN inspection is one hundred fifty dollars per pair. Larger repairs, such as replacing straps or Batim or significant letter correction, may require an additional fee. Quality Assessment At your request, the Sofer will provide a complimentary assessment of the overall quality and halachic status of your TEFILLIN. This helps you understand the craftsmanship, durability, and long term reliability of your set. Optional Finishing Services Hermetic cosmetic sealing and professional painting are available. These services require several days to complete and involve an additional fee. This service is not required for the kashrut of the Tefillin.
