Her debut EP, Vortex, floats between the secular and sacred. S.Broadway, a left-field mix of dreamy vocals and winding chord progressions, highlights her inner world, from a crumbling swap meet to an abandoned baptism pool in South Los Angeles. As a child Teira sang gospel in church, then in her teens snuck into jazz clubs and lo-fi music parties. Vortex explores these sonic connections with the use of analog drum machines and synthesizers while taking cues from Nina Simone, Aaliyah, and Herbie Hancock.
