In the case of Maisy Bristol’s Tempest Tarot, it has skillfully navigated past all the treacherous waters to berth itself on my tarot shelf. I am fully enjoying this deck with its nautical theme (see what I was doing there ;)) and gorgeous artwork depicting everything from mermaids and pirates to treasure trips through Kraken-infested waters. This deck is a must-have for anyone that loves the mystical sea and will provide great inspiration when used in readings. Some of my personal favorite cards in this deck are: 8 of Swords, depicting a skull ensconced by an octopus’s tentacles pierced by eight blades; 2 of Swords with its crossed scimitars behind a grinning skull evoking the Jolly Roger; and Justice with its compass bearing the scales balancing the Sun and the Moon. Usually Swords are not a favorite suit, but in this deck I really enjoy their connection to the broader theme.
