I called this painting "Terra" because, while I was working on it, I kept seeing fragments of a landscape appearing and disappearing through the layers. Water, vegetation, flowers, light, perhaps a glimpse of sky. Nothing is completely defined, which leaves space for the eye to wander and for the painting to become something slightly different each time you look at it. I worked with ink, oil paint and glitter, building the surface slowly through transparent washes, richer passages of color and small details that react beautifully to the light. The glitter is subtle. You notice it as you move around the painting, when certain areas suddenly catch the light and come alive. The palette brings together turquoise, mineral greens, warm yellow, pink and deep blue. There is something almost elemental about these colors together, somewhere between earth, water and air.
