This printed globe is the earliest in our collections to show the exploration of Australia. Most other discoveries on this globe were copied from a 1627 map by Hessel Gerritsz, car tographer of the Chamber of Amsterdam of the the Dutch East India Company. This globe, and its companion celestial globe are dedicated to Jacob Golius (1596-1667), Professor of Arabic at the University of Leiden who helped with the Arabic star names for the celestial globe.
